The Connecticut Tragedy and Gun Control

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire Newtown, Connecticut community.  This is a tragedy of enormous magnitude.  There are no words….

As communities across the US mourn for these families, we have to do better to protect our children.  We need to have meaningful and effective gun control.

This is enough – there is no more evidence we need to wait for.

Please console each other, remember and pray for these families and their entire community – and then let’s all do what we can to ensure that this kind of tragedy is no longer possible.

Really? When will people understand that gun free zones are really nothing more than free fire zones for criminals and psychopaths who have no regard for law? How many children might have been saved if a lawfully armed and well trained teacher or parent had been at hand? Despite the heroic desperation and ultimate sacrifice of the unarmed teachers in their attempts to protect the children, he had a free hand to kill as many as he chose to seek out, until the agonizing eternal minutes passed that were necessary for police to arrive on the scene.

We have tried your way all across the country. It is proven to be a failure. Can we try a different way now? Michigan’s concealed weapon licensees are the most law abiding and conscientious citizens in the state. Stop treating us like the criminals and the threat, and recognize the reality that the only way evildoers can be stopped in these abominable attacks is by the presence of those able to meet force with force.

When was the last time you heard about a mass shooting happening at a gun store or a gun show?

Lazarus – where is the evidence of incidents where an armed person has been able to stop something like this? What is the net balance between these kinds of massacres and someone actually stopping them with a concealed weapon? I can’t point to one instance. I can, however, point to many where access to guns by the wrong person has led to the loss of innocent life. I am sorry – there is no circumstance where making guns more accessible around children seems like a good idea. I do think the Connecticut story is proof of that.
